The 2023 Scottish Grand National Preview

Even though the dust has yet to settle on all of the drama that went on before the 2023 Grand National, it’s time to shine a light on Ayr as they host the 2023 Scottish Grand National Festival.

The Scottish Grand National, a race loved by all near and far takes center stage this weekend, with thousands of Scottish, Irish, English, and Welsh set to take the pilgrim to Ayr.

Kitty’s Light still stands his ground as he looks to go one place better than last year. Equipt with a 3lb lower rating, will it be enough for him to take the prize back to Walsh for the second year running?

Let’s see what might be lurking in the search for the 2023 Scottish Grand National winner.

Scottish Grand National – The Main Players

It’s easy to see why Kitty’s Light and Monbeg Genius are vying for favoritism on the back of two massive runs.

Kitty’s Light bounced back to form with a bang when heavily backed to take the Eider Chase at Newcastle back in February, and Monbeg Genius was last seen finishing 3rd beaten 2¼L by the now 2023 Grand National winner Corach Rambler.

On the back of that, the head of the market is hard to get away from. But with it being a National, let’s see if there is there any value lurking away from the obvious.

Scottish Grand National Value Picks

Is it possible that we will be getting a rendition of Flower Of Scotland before and after the Scottish National? I think it might well happen with the Sandy Thomason trained FLOWER OF SCOTLAND.

As we know Sandy made his feelings clearly known on the part the protesters played in the terrible loss of one of his stable stars Hill Sixteen in this year’s Grand National. But Flower Of Scottland might be about to shine a light on his trainer for all the right reasons.

This 8yo has shown already that the extreme 4m trip is right up his alley with taken display to take the Boarders National at Kelso by an impressive 6L.

He had a lovely spin over hurdles last month to set him up for a crack at the biggest prize in Scotland, and with a mark of 122, I would be shocked if he wasn’t capable of running a massive race off a lowly weight.

The lightly raced MANOFTHEPEOPLE comes in here with a lot going for him. Trainer Fergal O’Brien is having his best season yet, and with Manofthepeople he comes in here with a massive chance of claiming one of the biggest prizes of his career so far.

His three runs have been filled with massive promise. His bold jumping, close to the pace running style is never a bad thing in races like this. If the occasion and big field don’t get to him, then expect to see Manofthepeople put up a performance for the people.
