Cheltenham Trials Day

Keep it short and snappy, I am off to Cheltenham tomorrow so will be having 2 runners in a few races to enhance my racecourse experience and try and offset the horrific £7.50 for a Carling in a plastic cup.

Cheltenham Trials –12:05 Triumph Trial – No bet

Pick one of Burdett Road or Sir Gino. The winner will be the leading English contender.

Cheltenham Trials – 12:40 – Ginny’s Destiny 4/1 // Tightenourbelts 8/1

Ginny’s Destiny has won 2 out of 3 runs at Cheltenham this season. Jumped perfectly to take the scalp of Grey Dawning lto. Goes from the front and so did Harry Cobden on Stage Star to win this race last year.

Tightenourbelts drops back to handicap company. Putting a line through the last run where he was run ragged by Il Est Francais. Before that, he won so easily on his chase debut at Ludlow eased down by 10L. I think he could be competitive based on that run.

Cheltenham Trials – 13:15 Il Ridoto 4/1 – Victtorino 7/1

Il Ridoto won this race last year. Very unlucky to get done on the run in by Fugitif last time out. Both pulled miles clear from the field. This again is a race you want to be prominent in and I expect Harry to go from the front.

Victtorino has been unreal the last 2 runs. Could be a graded horse for sure. To win both races off top weight in the way he did I think he really could challenge here despite being slightly back in trip.

Cheltenham Trials – 13:50 – Stay Away Fay 10/3 – Ahoy Senor 7/1

Stay Away Fay, leading English contender for the Browns. Won the Albert Bartlett here so clearly stays well. Has beaten Grey Dawning and Giovinco nicely this season. He’s the young improver who could have a serious stay against a field where there is no solid Gold Cup level horse.

Ahoy Senor won this race last year after a very similar display of lackluster attempts. He’s pulled up twice so far this season but seems to come alive in January so fancy a go at a nice price.

14:25 – No bet – Jonbon wins

Cheltenham Trials – 15:00 Love Envoi 11/4

I could be stupid for this but Triumph hurdle horses tend to struggle in open company the next year. Love Envoi is no mug with a win and a 2nd to Honeysuckle at the course. I think if Lossiemouth is vulnerable it will be the first time out. Townend over solely for this ride so I may look stupid when she bolts.

Cheltenham Trials – 15:35 – Paisley Park or Noble Yeats?

At time of writing I am undecided. Paisley Park is in the form of his life this year with 2 head 2nds in valuable races. Noble Yeats coming here over hurdles with Harry Cobden is of weird interest to me and I feel he may be involved in the finish as he is a real stayer.

Cheltenham Trials – 16:10 Antrim Coast 7/1 // Gidleigh Park in doubles with Il Ridoto and Victtorino

Antrim Coast should have won at the October meeting going down to Butch who has since won a nice handicap on New Year’s Day here. Reckon he’s a cracking price and should run well for Gavin Cromwell who has done great at Cheltenham with his raiders this season.

Gidleigh Park is the obvious winner so I am doubling up with the 2 most likely winners of the 1:15. If either win you’re on for an enhanced priced single on Gidleigh Park.
