Cameron Fricker – Weekend Betting Tips

Estimated read time 5 min read

Nice to start the blog off with a winner in Geskille at Aintree last week at 10/3. Not my best weekend of racing though and hopefully we can smash up Cheltenham this week.

Fridays Betting Tips

14:20 Cheltenham – Arkle Trial – JPR One 6/4

If anyone read last week, which lets be honest you didn’t, I put JPR One up as one of my horses to watch for the season. Backed himself at 11/2 antepost before the race cut up. Blowing my own trumpet I know but who else will. Won his chase debut beautifully jumping like a stag with a good horse in Iceo behind. Hopefully he kicks on. Was a nice 2nd over C&D last year to Datsalrightgino.

14:55 Cheltenham – Cross Country – Back On The Lash 7/1 // Francky Du Berlais 16/1 EW (4 places)

Seems crazy to put up 2 in a cross country but I absolutely love the race. I am ignoring both Delta Work and Galvin here, both here for a spin. Neither here to win especially with this being a handicap compared to levels at the festival. To further my case, top weights in the last 5 years in this race have finished 3rd, 5th, 4th, 2nd and 4th. These horses being Delta Work, Easysland and Tiger Roll to name a few so we look elsewhere.

Back On The Lash won this race the last 2 years in a row. Absolutely loves the fences and is getting a tonne of weight off the faves. Primed with a run at Exeter where he was pulled up just before the last after running and jumping nicely. This will be his Gold Cup and hopefully makes it 3 in a row.

Francky Du Berlais refused to jump the last fence at the Cross Country at the festival back in March after interference from a loose horse. He was well clear of the rest at a whopping 125/1 and was nailed on for 3rd behind Galvin and Delta. He ran finely in this race last year that Back on the lash won and I expect him to be there at the finish and at least snag a place.

Saturday Betting Tips

13:10 Cheltenham – Strictlyadancer 8/1 // Mole Court 8/1

Couldn’t split them so I am backing both. Jack Andrews and Ben Pauling won this race last year and line up together again here after winning nicely at the October meeting. As a 6 year old he really looks like a horse that is still improving whereas there’s a lot of older horses lined up here. 10 ‘9 is a nice racing weight and expect him to kick on from his big field win.

Strictlyadancer was top weight in the same race Mole Court won and was out the back for 90% of the racing before running on strongly late on to get 4th. The first 3 that day all raced prominently so did well to finish where he did. Comes here with a talented claimer taking 7lbs off so races off 10 ‘4 which is lovely. Expecting crackers from both.

13:45 Cheltenham – Broadway Boy 5/1

Ran a cracker at the October meeting giving Flooring Porter good run until he fluffled the last. Think that’s a solid bit of form with his romp the race before being backed up with the 2nd coming out and winning. Can happily pick holes in a lot of the rest of these. Master Chewy wants a marathon trip this be on the short side whereas Good Risk At All doesn’t convince me at 3ms not sure he really stays. Wecouldbeanything was comfortably held by Broadway Boy. Also helps that my mate’s dad knows the owner and he says “it flieeees lad”.

14:20 Cheltenham – Paddy Power Gold Cup – Il Ridoto 8/1 EW // Fugitif 10/1 EW 5 places

Finally the big one of the day. Last 5 years all 5 winners have carried 11 ‘5 or less so despite the quality at the top I fancy something with a more workable weight. I have this thing with top weights in handicaps, always run crackers into 2nd or 3nd and just get caught by something better weighted.

Il Ridoto has a fine record in handicaps at Cheltenham. 4/14 in this race last year, 4/16 on New Years Day, 1/16 on trials day then a fine 6/23 in the Plate at the festival. Comes here with 10 ’10 on his back and Gingell takes off another 5lbs putting him very low in the weights. Gingell comes here on the back of winning the Haldon Gold Cup and im expecting a monster run. Horse came here fresh last year and finished a solid 4th so that is no worry.

Fugitif another that loves Cheltenham. 2/8 at this meeting last year before finishing 2nd behind Il Ridoto and they both pulled miles clear. Finally ended his Cheltenham spree with a 2nd in the Plate only finding the mighty Seddon too good. Hobson seems to think he’s a bigger stronger horse this year, so expecting a big run at a course he loves.

Have a cracking weekend everyone. If the fun stops, deposit another £20 and keep on punting. Your losses can’t run forever.
