I started watching racing from a very early age going into the pub with my dad every Saturday.
When I turned 16 he took me to my first meeting which was King George day at Kempton. From that moment on I was hooked. I then got my head properly into the form book where the love for the game grew.
Top 5 Horses of All Time
Altior – Altiors champion chase win where he was headed by Sceau Royal & Politologue only to fight back and win going away was mesmerising.
Constitution Hill – The new kid on the block but he will be around for ages and he is the first Champion I’ve seen in my time following racing. He will be the best Champion Hurdler ever.
Tiger Roll – How can Tiger Roll not be in your top 5 horses of all time. 5 Cheltenham festival wins to 2 grand nationals, the horse of a lifetime.
Summerghand – When I was first getting into racing and form Summerghand gave me my biggest priced winner at that time 40/1. He won’t mean much to most people but to me that was the proof that if you do put the work into the form and the replays it will pay long term.
Pinatubo – His season as a two year old really got me excited. As someone at the time just getting into racing he was a joy to watch. Shame he couldn’t repeat it as a 3yo but that’s racing.
Top 5 Horse Racing Memories
Shiskin V Energuemene – Ascot Chase. This was a race we were all looking forward too and it lived up to expectation. As a backer of Shiskin he never looked the winner until a 100 yards from the post. A truly great race between two remarkable horses.
Constitution Hill – Supreme Win. This is when he proved to us all he was the absolute governor over sticks. The best ever supreme performance beating rivals who are now proven of Grade 1 quality.
King George day 2019 – Clan Des Obeaux. This was the first time I had ever gone to racing as a 16 year old boy. This was the day that got me hooked on racing and a day I will never ever forget.
Epatante also won the Christmas hurdle that day, she went onto win the Champion Hurdle at the festival.
Altior’s champion chase 2019 win where he was headed by Sceau Royal & Politologue only to fight back and win going away was mesmerising. What a race. There is something about 2M chasers flying around that makes your hairs stand up.
Goshen falling at the last in the Triumph. Although this is a bad memory it was my first memory of ante-post betting. I had a wonderful 33/1 slip as well as a 4 fold where he was the last leg and I was laughing and dancing around in the pub when he went clear. It’s never over until it’s over and that’s something that I will never forget.
Who am I most Looking Forward Too This Season
I am most looking forward to seeing Constitution Hill this year. I couldn’t care how bad the champion hurdle division is, especially in England.
He is a superstar and will not be beaten. I would love him to win 4 or 5 Champion Hurdles on the bounce as there is no doubt he has the ability too.
