RACING THIS WEEKEND
I don’t feel like a recap for last weeks racing is necessary so let’s kick on into this weekends action including the GRADE 2 SILVINIACO CONTI CHASE.
Now the GRADE 2 SILVINIACO CONTI CHASE headlines the racing this weekend, so I believe it is only fair that we start on this race and wow, it is some field here!
PIC D’ORHY, EDWARDSTONE, BANBRIDGE, NOTLONGTILMAY & JANIDIL have all being declared to race and in all honesty, I think it is relatively straight forward to pick the winner here.
BANBRIDGE is a proper horse and put up a mega performance when last seen but that was 275 days ago… if he was coming into this with a run under his belt, I would certainly be in his camp for this year’s renewal, but as proven in the past he needs a pipe opener before being targeted towards his main goals. I can’t be on him here coming into this in which will be his longest break away from a racetrack.
EDWARDSTONE has just one to good in recent times with him being a long way off JONBON when they match up and I think him stepping up in trip is certainly the right course of action at this stage of his career. He is however 10 years old which could also become apparent on Saturday that his best days are just simply well behind him now, with all those question marks around him at this time, I wish him well in the race but for a betting proposition at 5/2 he isn’t of any interest for me.
NOTLONGTILMAY and JANIDIL warrant respect and I do think they have a good chance to cause an upset, but NOTLONGTILMAY last won a race nearly a year ago and despite being a solid consistent horse he just doesn’t seem to win often, his last winning mark of 132 would see him have no hope here… and as for JANIDIL, I would have him a bit shorter than 8/1 for this. He is a proper 2 and half-miler, you will always get a solid performance out of him but again he just doesn’t win enough races.
That brings me onto my first advised bet of the weekend, PIC D’ORHY 5/2. He is the only horse in this with no question marks around his name. He has ran twice around here in which they both resulted in him coming 1st place. He is a proper consistent type for a yard who are on fire at the moment and jocked up by Harry Cobden.
He is going to take the world of beating here, he has a run under his belt in which he won in comfortable fashion beating Straw Fan Jack by 16 lengths. Don’t get me wrong if BANBRIDGE turns up here revved up then it will be a tight affair, but I think the way PIC D’ORHY is established himself as a proper 2 and half-miler will have enough to see off this opposition here. It is going to be a cracking race!
GRADE 1 LAWLORS OF NAAS HURDLE.
The contest leads a really strong field including AN TOBAR, FIREFOX and ILE ATLANTIQUE. This is a really strong race for novice hurdlers. I think AN TOBAR could take some whacking here, FARRENS GLORY looked the winner next time out until falling 2 out, so the form of the last race has certainly taken a boost. He looks like a 2M 4F horse all over to me and I mentioned this in my blog a few weeks ago and I am delighted to see him upped in trip here. He did so well to stay on as well as he did in the ROYAL BOND and as previously mentioned the form has franked with FARRENS GLORY being an unfortunate faller despite looking likely to hose up, and KING OF KINGSFIELD gagging up against the hot talking horse MIRAZUR WEST.
I know for a fact he will love the trip, if he wins this here as I mentioned a few weeks back in my blog, he could have a proper chance in the BALLYMORE. I am really excited to see him back out and at 6/1 E/W AN TOBAR is second selection of this weekends racing. I hope CROKE PARK runs a good race too as he is a horse I think has a massive future ahead of him the further he goes in trip.
HAMPTON NOVICES CHASE
I am really keen on GREY DAWNING 5/2. He was desperately unlucky to be beaten last time out and you could probably put a huge amount of blame on Harry Skelton that day… it was an appalling ride and I think they’ll want to erect that mistake in this. He has already beaten APPLE AWAY before giving away weight and it was a convincing victory to say the least. I think he should take all the beating here and he would be alot shorter of a price if he had a 1 next to his form rather than a 2.

Short and sweet blog this week, its a shame that last weeks racing was rather underwhelming to say the least but we’ve got some good races to watch this weekend, especially the Lawlors Of Naas on Friday.
